In December 2013 former Manchester United teammates Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs are launching an exciting new restaurant, Café Football in Stratford – a venture which will bring 40 jobs to the area.
The 140 seated capacity restaurant, located on The Street, Westfield Stratford City, will be the first in the UK and generate a range of jobs for the local community, including bar tenders, serving staff and kitchen staff.
Café Football will be working with The Skills Place and Newham Council Work Place to employ a team of the best local talent, focusing on those who are currently out of work, as well as people who are interested in apprenticeships.
Designed to create a memorable dining experience in a casual setting, Café Football will capture that authentic football culture. Hints to the great game will also run throughout the décor and menu.
The menu itself, which has been exclusively created by two Michelin star chef, Michael Wignall, will be prepared by executive chef, Brendan Fyldes and will see traditional half time food transformed into something extraordinary. From posh pies to a half time orange with a twist, the menu is set to delight footy fans and foodies alike.
The site in Westfield Stratford City was chosen for Café Football following the success of the 2012 Olympic Games and the legacy it has left behind for local residents, as well a tourists from the UK and abroad.
Gary Neville, commented: “Opening a new restaurant in Westfield Stratford City, is an exciting prospect for us. Our aim is to create a dining experience which can be enjoyed by people who love food and love football.
Ryan Giggs, added: “Westfield Stratford City is the perfect location for Café Football. We will be operating alongside some of the world’s most famous brands and we’re sure our offering will add something unique to this already fantastic shopping and leisure district.”
Café Football’s general manager, Liz Reece, added: “The team behind Café Football is extremely proud to be investing in the local area. We are currently in the process of building a skilled team, who will make dining at the restaurant an unforgettable experience for everyone who visits us.”
Bill Giouroukous, director of operations, Westfield said: “The arrival of Café Football at Westfield Stratford City is not only an exciting prospect for our visitors, but we are also delighted to see the team working to support the local area, through job creation for Newham residents.
“With its unique take on food and dining, the opening of Café Football will further enhance the leisure offering at the centre, which already boasts over 60 places to eat, a state of the art cinema, a bowling alley and casino.”
