Sir Alex Ferguson left an indelible mark on all those who played under him at Manchester United. And two key men from his reign at Old Trafford want to take his footballing philosophy into the culinary world.
Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville will open Cafe Football in Stratford Westfield City next month and are determined to make the restaurant a success. To help them, they are looking for inspiration from their old boss. “It’s about discipline,” said Giggs, “but it’s also about having a good team spirit…Most of all he [Ferguson] would say to us…’enjoy it’…and that’s what we hope from the team at Cafe Football…We’ve enjoyed putting it together and seeing it evolve. Hopefully we’ve done everything right and it will be an exciting venture.”
Opening December 12, Cafe Football will offer dishes from terrace favourites such as hot dogs, burgers and pies to more healthy foods like salads. Neville said the idea was to come up with something to entice football fans…”Music has restuarants such as Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe…football needed something to represent it. Cafe Football is simple and we hope it will be a success.”
