You can’t really avoid football if you’re heading to a restaurant called Cafe Football, inside Hotel Football, right next door to the football ground of Manchester United.
The beautiful game is of course the inspiration for this shiny new endeavour from ex-Reds stars Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs – and its inspiration is everywhere to be seen inside the cafe on the ground floor of the hotel.
The brown leather booths are inspired by retro footballs, Panini stickers of legends form the wallpaper, and the menu itself is sectioned into footballing terms for every course.
We are seated next to the huge windows, with quite spectacular views across the River Irwell to the Manchester United ground. I should point out at this stage that I have no allegiance on either Red or Blue side, and as a neutral could simply sit back and enjoy the splendour of such a view of the city.
On the night of our visit, the England v Italy international game was playing on the plethora of TV screens adorning the walls of the venue, and indeed football games play out on these screens every night of the week.
