Earlier this month, 121 students came down to run 5 or 10 kilometers around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The sun was out for the day, which made the race an ideal way to spend a Sunday morning. This was the first ever edition of the London Students’ Run and what a success it was. England Athletics supported the event which was sponsored by Cafe Football.
Even though the event was not part of a University competition, many athletes came dressed in their University vests to proudly represent their teams.
There was a mix of abilities from LUCA cross-country winners to occasional joggers. People racing to achieve personal bests and others there to tick a 5 or 10 kilometer run off their 2016 to do list. If you did not get a chance to join this run, stay informed and be sure not to miss out on the next LUCA event!
Chris, a casual runner from Kings College said that: “the atmosphere was great, when I felt like I couldn’t go on, the people around me motivated me to keep going. Everyone was there for the same reason and as my first LUCA event, I felt like everyone was very accepting. I would definitely do it again.”
In the past two weeks LUCA has held the indoors championships and the London Student run to promote running and athletics in London. As running in winter is getting a little daunting, get involved, and sign up to these events! It will help with your fitness and moral. It is an opportunity to go outside, and meet people from other universities, or even your own.
If you are not convinced that running is for you but still want to be part of the experience, there is space for you! Volunteers throughout the run were needed to direct runners throughout the course and most importantly gave much needed support to everyone. As a volunteer, Jonathan, said, “it’s a good feeling to enable others to run“.
